My sister feels that I should point out that the mashed potatoes that our mom served at Sunday Dinner were always lumpy, never smooth. Our whole family preferred mashed potatoes that had some texture.
Anyway, tomorrow night I'm cooking dinner for Big D as a 30th birthday present. I'm going to make pecan-breaded pork chops (now that I have a food processor, thanks to my sister, I can make fresh bread crumbs without scraping my knuckles on a box grater), chili-roasted sweet potatoes, broccoli braised in garlic and white wine, and chocolate mousse. I think he'll like it. He's not a picky eater, which is why I'm always happy to cook for him.
After tomorrow night, I don't have much of anything on the horizon for a while. I'm mulling over the possibility of hosting an Oscar party, but since the Oscars are always so boring, I don't know if I want to inflict that on my friends. I could do an anti-Valentine's day thing, too, for all my friends who are single like me. I definitely want to have a Derby Day party this year, with southern food and mint juleps. And I might have another wine-n-cheese party before the end of winter; it seems like a cold-weather thing to do. I'll have to think about this some more....
